The Billington Ball, or ‘how to light a cathedral.’

When it comes to throwing a staff party, few can compete with The Billington Group.

A job like this is a dream to a photographer like me. Yes it’s a challenge to shoot a candlelit cathedral but what results!

As you can see from the pictures no expense was spared to transform the inside of this already impressive structure into the perfect space for dinner, drinks and dancing. Guests were received in the lady chapel with a champagne reception and nibbles from Pickled Walnut Catering. PW are a specialist catering firm who created some amazing food served with style and are worth checking out.

Walking through the main space the first thing to hit you is the lighting design from Adlib sound, light and visual solutions. They had bathed the room in blue and purple lighting that was breathtaking and a joy to shoot, complimenting the warm candlelight and flowers from Sentimental moments.

Once the party had settled into their seats they enjoyed a great meal accompanied by Victoria Sharpe, a pianist and singer who looked at home on the huge stage. She’s quite something and worth a listen.

Following Victoria the evening was rounded off by The Capitals, whose lively covers kept  the room dancing till the end of the night.

I caught up with Annika Green from the Liverpool office who had this to say about my work.

Jon was recommended to me from someone who attended one of his night walks and after seeing his photos I had no doubt that he would do an excellent job. The Anglican Cathedral is a difficult venue to photograph due to its size and people had warned me that shooting in there would be very difficult. Giving Jon the brief I felt confident that he captured our spirit and feel for the event, on the night he was super professional and good fun (he also stayed an extra hour to capture the event when it was getting lively!). I was honestly blown away by the level of his work and was delighted by the quick turnaround in receiving the photos back. I would not hesitate for a second to recommend Jon for other corporate events and would definitely look to use him again in the future.
